Leia, Princess of Alderaan by Claudia Gray

Claudia Gray writes Star Wars better than anyone else I've read. Lost Stars, great. Bloodline, great. Leia, Princess of Alderaan, great. This is the Star Wars origin story we deserve. This is about her finding her place in the galaxy and into the Alliance. There are several great relationships introduced in this story. Most notable is her mother Breha, who's never really been fleshed out in Star Wars lore before (as far as I know) but is fantastically revealed in this story as the regal ruler of the planet. The other stand out is Amilyn Holdo, who'll be played by Laura Dern in The Last Jedi. On a superficial level, she's Luna Lovegood in Star Wars. That quirky, weird friend, that's there for Leia when she needs her most. I'm curious to see if any of the teenage versions characteristics make their way into the much older character's big screen debut. As mentioned, this book shares a lot of similarities to Young Adult tropes, but it earns every moment of emotion and never strays from feeling like it exists in the world.
